Prayer Group and Prayers for Healing

On the first Monday of the month at 7.30pm we meet informally in the Foley Chapel for about an hour.  The first part of the session is led by one of the regular members of the group.  It could be based around a short passage from Scripture; a short meditation that someone has written or found;  or a poem or expressions of answers to previous prayers.  Then there is a time of open prayer, when we pray for the church and the world according to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.  However, there is no compulsion upon anybody to pray out loud.  Some people find this easier and more helpful than others, and some of our strongest and deepest pray-ers are people who do not find praying spontaneously aloud particularly easy.  Much of our prayer time finds its focus on those who are in need of God's healing touch, in whatever capacity, and over the years we have had some wonderful answers to prayer.

The last quarter of an hour or so is made available to anyone who would like prayer and the laying on of hands for themselves or for a friend or a loved one, or even for a situation that is going on in the world that burdens them.   Again, there is no pressure on anyone to take advantage of this ministry, but often one or two members of the prayer group will avail themselves of it.   There are usually two of our regular members out of a pool of three or four who have had experience of offering this ministry.  What is offered is usually fairly short and without fuss.

After this ministry has been offered, there is usually some form of concluding prayer, followed by the sharing of the Grace.

If you have never experienced this kind of meeting before but feel that it might be for you, please come along on the first Monday of the month, or maybe ask a member of staff for further details.

In my experience, this is one of the most important things that we do at St Peter's!
