I trust in your loving kindness.
My heart rejoices in your salvation.
(Psalm 13:5)
We pride ourselves at St Peter's that our wedding services are always 'one-off' events, and we take a great deal of trouble to ensure that your wedding at St Peter's will be an event to remember for all the best reasons! We take a great deal of trouble in helping couples plan this important part of their big day, and we like to get to know them as well as possible before the wedding itself.
We normally meet couples at least three times. First the Rector meets couples informally and tries to get to know them a little, as well as filling out the basic form. It is at this meeting that we ask for a deposit of £50: the balance of the fees (Click here for 2010 fees to be paid at the rehearsal. Then there will be at least one other meeting approximately three months before the wedding, at which the details of the service will be firmed up, and music and hymns will be chosen. Then there is the rehearsal - which we usually hold about a week before the big day. We usually like to have everyone who will be taking part in the service at the rehearsal: including ushers, if possible, who play a very important part in setting the tone of your wedding. Incidentally, it is important for couples planning to get married at St Peter's to know that we do not permit the playing of recorded music during the service, although live music can be played by our organist, either on the newly-refurbished organ or the grand piano. Some couples like to bring in their own singers or instrumentalists to take part in the service. Otherwise, we can arrange for our adult choir (of at least eight people) to lead the singing. Our bellringers can also be available to ring at the beginning and the end of the service.
So, how do we know if we qualify to be married at St Peter's?
The Church of England has recently relaxed its rules about who can be married at the local parish church, and here are some examples to help you.
You can be married at St Peter's if...
Under certain circumstances we are able to marry those whose previous marriage has been dissolved, but would need to explore this possibility very fully with those concerned. As an alternative, we can also offer a service of Blessing after a Civil Marriage.
If you would like to pursue the possibility of being married at St Peter's further, or find that none of the above information fits your particular circumstances, please contact Revd David Blackburn, the Rector, either on 01384-872556 or by e-mail: blackburn337@btinternet.com.
